Physics is the science that studies matter and the fields affecting it, such as gravity, the exploitation of the energies associated with matter and its movement, and the ability to transform energy into its various forms. It attempts to measure it and develops a mathematical model capable of representing it outside the experimental laboratory. One of the basic features of physics is that it is an experimental science that does not depend on the theoretical side only.

This course entitled Physics 1 is intended for first-year students of « Earth and Universe Sciences ». This course offers an in-depth introduction to the basics of general physics and aims to deepen students' knowledge in the domain of mechanics, optics, acoustic waves, etc. It allows students to acquire basic knowledge in physics so they can employ it in various fields and use it in all problems they encounter during their training.

  • This course of Physics 1 is directed to first-year Earth and Universe science students. It aims to obtain basic knowledge in general physics, address various basic concepts in physics, understand physical phenomena, and analyze them into mathematical equations to solve physics problems.

At the end of this course, the student will be able to:

    • Recognize various basic concepts in physics in the fields of mechanics, optics, acoustics waves, and ultrasound.
    • Understand the basic laws that allow theoretical and practical study of any physics problem.
    • Apply the basic laws of physics (Newton's, Kepler's laws ....) and the relationships (dimensional analysis ....) to solve physics problems.
    • Analyze the motion of the material points and planets, as well as analyze the propagation of light and acoustic waves.

  • To be able to follow the course of Physics 1 properly, it is necessary to have some prior knowledge of physics and mathematics that you have previously studied, likewise:

    • Must have some understanding of general mathematics such as vector operations, and derivatives of functions...
    • Must have a background in general physics including classical mechanics.

  • This course contains four chapters (Learning units), and each chapter includes several units that allow acquiring basic notions in physics. I supported each chapter with series of exercises that allowed a better understanding of the concepts. Here is the lesson plan:

    • Chapter 1: Introduction
    • Chapter 2: Mechanics of Material Point
    • Chapter 3: Optics
    • Chapter 4: Acoustic waves
