To be able to make the most of this course, students are assumed to have completed the following:

• The 1^st and 2^nd laws of thermodynamics, and energy balance;
• Flow properties, and flow regimes from fluid mechanics, and;
• Differential equations from mathematics.

The relevant concepts from these topics are introduced and reviewed as needed.
