    • ·         To understand the main industrial processes in mineral chemistry.

      ·         To study the manufacturing of cement, glass, and ceramics.

      ·         To examine the production of sulfuric acid and phosphoric acid.

      ·         To analyze the synthesis of ammonia.

      ·         To explore major metallurgical processes.

    • Introduction (1 week)

      • Raw materials : Defintion and examples.
      • Basic criteria for selecting raw materials : Economic, Technical, Availability, Hygiene and Safety, Cost considerations.

      Chapter I : Cements (2 weeks)

      • Introduction.
      • Lime and its production.
      • Gypsum plaster.
      • Cement: Types of cement, chemical composition, and Portland cement manufacturing.
      • Chemical composition of Portland cement.
      • Setting and hardening of Portland cement.
      • Heat of hydration of cement.
      • Special cement.

      Chapter II. Glass and Ceramics (2 weeks)

      • Introduction.
      • Glass manufacturing and types of glass.
      • Clay plasticity, white paste, glazing, and applications.
      • Earthenware, stoneware, and optical fibers.

      Chapter III. Industrial Production of Sulfuric Acid (3 weeks)

      • Production of sulfur dioxide.
      • Conversion of SO₂ to SO₃ (thermodynamics, kinetics, and converter calculations).
      • Absorption of SO₃.
      • Manufacturing process and environmental aspects (flow sheets).

      Chapter IV. Industrial Production of Phosphoric Acid (3 weeks)

      • Dry process.
      • Wet process.
      • Construction materials and phosphates.

      Chapter V. Ammonia Production (3 weeks)

      • Preparation of synthesis gas.
      • Equilibrium, kinetics, catalysts, and reactor technologies.
      • Process flow diagrams.

      Chapter VI. Major Metallurgical Processes (1 week)

      • Metallurgy of key metals (Fe, Al, Cu, Ti, Mg, etc.).
